Make Way for Music
infants to 7 years
|
A one-room schoolhouse approach to music. With older children ready to show the little ones how it's done and the younger ones eager to learn, Family Time becomes a multi-layered learning environment. Each week, we will introduce basic musical concepts and then give your family the instruments and the structured free time to put those concepts into play.
Your children will listen to instruments and to each other, learn from their peers and older children, and enjoy music and movement with hoops, scarves and tumble-around play.
Story time and family jams, puppet play and happy singing in all the Family Time activities encourage discovery and exploration and foster sharing and social skills too.
In this special place for musical, social and emotional learning, your children will strengthen their ties with each other and with you and they'll start developing the skills they'll need in school and on the neighborhood playground.

In this class we’ll think and talk in 3s. In class we’ll sing songs that help your child seek and find that pattern, such as singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Even the things in your Student Kit this month comes in 3s when you listen to the music, share the activities, and splash around with this blow-up ball.

We will celebrate the wonder of children. They will have fun moving their bodies, using their senses, and talking about their friends, their favorite things, and all the things they can do all by themselves as they explore the learning focus: “I can hear and remember patterns. My selfesteem is growing.”

 Carnival of Music
Children are compulsive music makers. They hum in the bathtub, sing along with the radio in the car, and love the opportunity to use wooden spoons and pots from the kitchen as drums. We will have a wonderful exploration experience as we have the opportunity to sing and play musical instruments. They will develop comfort with instruments and their ability to play them, increasing their likelihood of playing instruments as they get older.

 Feel the Music
Expressing herself and what she needs from teachers and friends is a necessary skill in school. So in class we’ll help your preschooler learn more about the words that help her describe the way she feels, while learning more about the emotions of others. Your Student Kit includes the same music and stories we’ll be talking about in class to help you open the door to the emotions your preschooler is learning to express.

 Jazz Kitchen
We will take jazz music, sounds and instruments into the kitchen! Children will explore food in its many dimensions — shopping at the grocery store, then heating up the kitchen with chopping, dicing, making toast, and cooking noodles from scratch — all to the rhythms and sounds of jazz. They’ll also explore quarter-note and eight-note rhythms with their hands, their bodies, and a piano keyboard.

 Giggles
It’s all about laughter, humor and fun. Children will hear and tell knock-knock jokes, dance silly dances, and laugh their way through all kinds of activities. They’ll hear instruments found in traditional American folk music, including the banjo, washboard, saw, spoons, and jaw harp. They’ll explore presto (fast) and largo (slow) in all kinds of environments—on the keyboard, with their hands and bodies and with other instruments and props.
